Malpasset Dam Break Model Validation

Adaptive Hydraulics Model The Malpasset dam was located on the Reyran River in southern France. The dam failed at 21:13 on December 2, 1959. The resulting flood wave was approximately 40 m high and resulted in 433 casualties. There was also significant damage to infrastructure in the villages of Malpasset, Bozon, and Frejus. This dam failure provided a test case for the AdH numerical model due to the abundance of high water marks available. Scale modeling has also been performed on the Malpasset dam with the resulting data also being used to validate the AdH model. The model has a domain area of 65.8 square miles.
