  • Cold-weather, low-emission vinyl coating tested at Alaska training range

    A new type of vinyl coating system that can be applied in sub-freezing temperatures also complies with emission standards for volatile organic compounds (VOC). ERDC Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) demonstrated the coating on a bridge at Yukon Training Range, Alaska, and is continuing to monitor its performance.

    Six current and former ERDC-Vicksburg employees hosted an engineering workshop for the fourth and fifth grade Gifted and Talented Educational Services (GATES) class at Bovina Elementary School March 20. Damarys Acevedo-Acevedo, Dr. Susan Bailey, Jose´ Mattei-Sosa, and Bobby McComas all from EL, Dr. Jackie Pettway from CHL and former employee Bobby Carpenter participated in the outreach project, sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers Vicksburg Branch.

    Tim Hayden, Champaign, won the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association’s Military Natural Resource Conservation Research, Fish and Wildlife Award.
  • Researcher Wins Advanced Training

    Tarek Abdallah, Champaign, received a long-term training award from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. He will spend one year at the Department of Energy’s Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, Calif., to enhance his distributed energy modeling skills and expertise.

    "Snowbirds" is a nickname that popularly describes northerners who enjoy the warmth of winters in Florida. The same holds true for a diversity of birds that migrate to Florida and places further south. These real snowbirds, such as Snowy and Piping Plovers, are benefitting from ERDC team members' environmental recommendations for coastal military installations.
