Who We Are

The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) is the premier Department of Defense (DOD) laboratory for development and application of advanced information technology to military and civil works mission areas. ITL supports the missions of the ERDC, Army, Department of Defense , and other agencies by conceiving, planning, managing, conducting and coordinating R&D in high-performance computing, computer-aided and interdisciplinary engineering, computer science, and instrumentation systems. Through a balanced program of research and development  and demonstration, ITL advances the Army's knowledge and ability to use advanced information technology to address a wide range of engineering and scientific challenges.

Capabilities

ITL offers expertise in the science of information, the practice of information processing and the engineering of information systems. The laboratory provides innovative best-value solutions to meet the needs of customers in Systems Engineering and Informatics, Computational Science and Engineering, and Scientific Computing:

  • Software Engineering and Informatics: ITL creates computational systems that combine computing, software and integration techniques, along with the packaging of these systems into the Department of Defense environments. The Tri-Service CAD/BIM Technology Center for the Facilities, Infrastructure, and the Environment provides support for the engineering sciences through computer-aided design and building information modeling.
  • Computational Science and Engineering: ITL develops and maintains a computational environment that supports the full spectrum of activities—model creation, solver libraries, numerical codes, post-processing and visualization—necessary to tackle world-class problems.
  • Scientific Computing: ITL provides high-performance computing approaches to scientific discovery, hosting a major DOD Supercomputing Center and the DOD Data Analysis and Assessment Center.
