    ERDC Environmental Laboratory team receives prestigious technical achievement award

    A team from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environmental Laboratory (EL) recently received the Sebastian Sizgoric Technical Achievement Award from the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise (JALBTCX) at their annual Coastal Mapping and Charting Workshop. The award recognizes any worldwide public or private contributor striving to advance the science of using light detection and ranging, or lidar, in coastal mapping and charting.

    Construction work at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center will soon be complete on the latest infrastructure enhancement project at the main campus in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The project includes road repair, easier access and cleaner layouts of roads, addition of new lighting, moving powerlines, repairing water and gas lines and rerouting and improving the communication lines.

    ITL team gets their hands dirty with soil classification effort

    Soil exhibits immense diversity across the Earth’s surface, naturally developing under varying climate regimes, geological materials, landscape portfolios, time intervals and more. A U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) team is working to help remotely identify soil in an effort to enable the Department of Defense to confidently and accurately predict its potential impacts on various operations, particularly in foreign countries and access-denied areas.

The chamber can maintain a temperature of minus 54 degrees Celsius and can hold a running vehicle.     The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory’s (CRREL) new Climatic Cold Chamber Building, which CRREL research teams will utilize for the testing of materiel used by the Warfighter in extreme cold environments.

    RD22 workshop addresses R&D challenges, emphasizes strategic collaboration

    When both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) needed to prioritize hospital support in New England during the COVID-19 omicron variant surge in the beginning of January, they turned to the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Risk and Decision Science Team (RADST) led by Jeff Cegan.
