    ERDC earns high scores on annual student survey

    This summer, ERDC hosted a record-breaking number of interns at its seven laboratories—544 of them to be exact. Ninety-five percent of the students, interns, and fellows who worked at the organization during Fiscal Year 2024 agreed in an annual student survey that ERDC’s work activities provided a positive learning experience.

    ERDC selects new Information Technology Laboratory director

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has selected Dr. Robert Moser as the new director of the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL). As director, Moser will lead a team of approximately 700 federal and contractor personnel who work in the areas of information technology, high-performance computing, data analytics, software engineering, scientific visualization and more. Additionally, he will oversee the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program.

    Ruth Osburn, certified occupational health nurse specialist, served at ERDC for 17 years. Before joining ERDC in 2007, Osburn worked more than 30 years in Intensive Care Units, which included two Veterans Affairs hospitals.

    Ruth Osburn, who worked as a certified occupational health nurse specialist for the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Health Services Office for 17 years, officially retired Friday, July 12, after a 49-year nursing career.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Dr. David A. Horner, director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), has retired after 40 years of civil service. A retirement ceremony was held in honor of the Clinton, Mississippi, native on May 21, 2024, at ITL.

    CERL research microbiologist Anne McCarthy using Madagascar hissing cockroaches for her project - Insect antennae for odorant-driven real-time decision processing. She is hoping to learn if their antennae can help identify and sense chemicals in an area that can affect a Soldier.

    ERDC researcher using insects to help the Warfighter and the Nation

    ERDC's Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) is known to discover, develop, deliver and sustain trusted engineering and scientific solutions impacting built and natural infrastructure for the Warfighter and the Nation. Researcher Anne McCarthy takes that mission seriously, so she's called in Madagascar hissing cockroaches for her project "Insect antennae for odorant-driven real-time decision processing," which basically means their antennae will help identify and sense chemicals in an area.
