    ERDC robotics team advances future of combat engineering at PC-C5

    A team from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) recently played a key role in a major Army exercise called Project Convergence Capstone 5 (PC-C5).     ERDC helps breathe new life into Boeing B-52 aircraft

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – In an effort to enhance acquisition programs for all branches of the U.S. military, a team of engineers and technical experts from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have developed a cloud-based digital engineering environment that includes specific hardware, a variety of design tools and access to high-performance computing. This technology was put to use when the ERDC’s Information Technology Lab (ITL) was asked to help the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) accomplish their tasks for the B-52H Commercial Engine Replacement Program (CERP) – a modernizing effort to install new Rolls Royce F130 engines onto the 70-year-old B-52 bomber fleet. This update is projected to increase system reliability and significantly reduce current maintenance costs.

    ERDC’s Wallace earns BYU Honored Alumni Award

    PROVO, Utah—Dr. Rob Wallace, a technical director with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), was recently selected as the 2024 Honored Alumnus for the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering at Brigham Young University (BYU). The Honored Alumni Award, part of the BYU homecoming celebrations, recognizes the career achievements of the top graduates from each of the universities 11 colleges.

    ITL ventures into neuromorphic computing

    In recent years, edge computing has revolutionized the technology landscape for users situated in remote areas or away from primary devices. By bringing computation and data storage closer to the location where it is needed, response times, reliability and performance are greatly improved, latency and bandwidth costs are reduced and privacy and security are enhanced. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) Edge Computing Lab has long been on the cutting-edge of this field and is now exploring something new: neuromorphic computing.

    ERDC selects new Information Technology Laboratory director

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) has selected Dr. Robert Moser as the new director of the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL). As director, Moser will lead a team of approximately 700 federal and contractor personnel who work in the areas of information technology, high-performance computing, data analytics, software engineering, scientific visualization and more. Additionally, he will oversee the Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program.

    ERDC’s Director of the Information Technology Laboratory Retires

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Dr. David A. Horner, director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), has retired after 40 years of civil service. A retirement ceremony was held in honor of the Clinton, Mississippi, native on May 21, 2024, at ITL.

    ERDC takes award-winning robotics teams to the FIRST World Championships

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Over two decades ago, the U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) created a robotics team that was formed with a mission to provide educational experiences for young people by promoting hands-on learning in the community. Today, Team 456 Siege Robotics is a FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team that is made up of about eighteen students from across central Mississippi.

    ERDC’s Dozier exchanges the US for the UK

    VICKSBURG, Miss.— Only five people have been selected throughout the Army to participate in the Engineer and Scientist Exchange Program (ESEP), and Dr. Haley Dozier is one of them. Dozier, a computer scientist in the Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), will be spending a year overseas working with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, which is an executive agency of the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence.
