Mr. Charles W. “Chuck” Ertle, II, currently serves as the deputy director of the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. Mr. Ertle began his career as a field engineer for Schlumberger Limited and served GSL as lead researcher and project manager in the Special Projects Group. Mr. Ertle was selected as branch chief to lead the Structural Engineering Branch in 2014. Mr. Ertle earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, graduating Summa Cum Laude, from Mississippi State University, followed by a master's in civil engineering, also from MSU. Mr. Ertle authored or co-authored numerous technical publications and has been recognized with multiple ERDC Awards for Excellence in Operational Support, Outstanding Team Effort and Outstanding Achievement in Technology Transfer.
