WASHINGTON, D.C. – ERDC was well represented at the recent biennial Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Marine Transportation System (MTS) Conference “Diagnosing the Marine Transportation System: Measuring Performance and Targeting Improvement.”

The keynote presentation was given by Maj. Gen. Michael J. Walsh, Deputy Commanding General for Civilian and Emergency Operations for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The conference was co-sponsored by the Committee on MTS, the TRB, and the Marine Board of the National Academies.

The conference provided a forum to examine the use of performance metrics in maritime transportation and waterways management. Through collaborative input from stakeholders in government, academia, and the private sector, conference participants explored how the marine transportation system and intermodal connectors perform through the application of performance metrics.

The conference engaged stakeholders from government, academia, and the private sector in examining the use of performance indicators in maritime transportation and waterways management and identified indicators that fully consider the MTS in the context of the overall supply chain.

Among the 130 participants were representatives from other federal agencies, academia, the shipping industry, and other USACE offices.
