The Engineers at Vicksburg, Part 12: Duckport Canal and the march on Vicksburg
The Duckport Canal connecting Walnut Bayou with the Mississippi River was intended to open a water-borne supply route for Grant’s army. Like previous channel-digging efforts, the Duckport plan also failed as flood water receded. This Coastal Survey of the canal was produced in 1863 by the U.S. Coastal Survey.
