    ERDC leads demonstration of hydrogen fueled equipment at National Guard site in Illinois

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's (ERDC) Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) is advancing energy resiliency and reliability by using hydrogen as a sustainable, renewable energy source. ERDC-CERL is spearheading research and development efforts to integrate hydrogen energy solutions into military operations, aiming to provide clean backup energy systems that enhance the energy independence of Department of Defense (DoD) installations.

    Dr. Anthony Fragoso, a research physicist at ERDC's Cold Regions Research and Engineering Lab (CRREL), has been named a 2025 Laboratory-University Collaboration Initiative (LUCI) fellow by the Department of Defense. The LUCI fellowship will pair Fragoso, whose research focuses on developing AI and autonomy for extreme environments, with Prof. Richard Murray, a control theorist and the Thomas E. and Doris Everhart Professor of Control and Dynamical Systems and Bioengineering at the California Institute of Technology.

    ERDC researchers awarded SMART SEED Grant

    Two researchers with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) were recently awarded SMART SEED Grants. Andrew Jin, an Environmental Laboratory Research Civil Engineer, and Paul Meed, a Research Mechanical Engineer with ERDC’s Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory were the ERDC recipients this year.

    Research Civil Engineer Joelle Westcott with the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) was awarded the Department of Defense (DoD) Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Program Creative Research & Engineering Advancing Technical Excellence in STEM (CREATES) Innovation Award for Fiscal Year 2025.

    ERDC hosts first-of-its-kind cold weather manufacturing challenge

    The Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program’s hosted the first-of-its-kind Point of Need Manufacturing Challenge, December 4-8, at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, New Hampshire.

    More than 120 attendees from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and a multitude of federal agencies, as well as partners from allied nations with interests in the Arctic such as Canada and the United Kingdom, came to CRREL to discuss new technologies being developed, new means of international communication and how to overcome the challenges of maintaining Arctic dominance as a united group.

    Using unmanned aircraft systems to map installation assets maximizes efficiency

    VICKSBURG, Miss. (Feb. 26, 2018)--Jenny Laird, Thommy Berry, Kenneth Matheson, Elizabeth Lord and Robby Boyd, all of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory, utilized unmanned aircraft systems to conduct an infrastructure inventory and assessment of the ERDC-Vicksburg installation, part of a collaborative effort with ERDC’s Directorate of Public Works and the Installation Support Division.
