    ERDC researchers design, test new mobile treatment for relief wells

    A multi-agency team of researchers and specialists from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and industry collaborator WaterStep have partnered to design and test a new approach to clean and maintain relief wells from biofilm buildup. The new technology is called the Relief Well Sustainment (RWS) Deployable Resilient Installation water Purification and treatment System (DRIPS) mobile trailer.

    As the effects of climate change threaten coastal communities through extreme natural events such as hurricanes, coastal storms, tsunamis and landslides, and contribute to longer-term risks of coastal erosion and sea level rise, coastal research professionals continue to work together to identify priorities and leverage resources.

    ERDC unveils newest supercomputer in recognition of Medal of Honor recipient

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) unveiled and dedicated its newest supercomputer, an HPE EX 4000, in honor of Medal of Honor recipient and Mississippi native, Cpl. William “Kyle” Carpenter, in a ceremony held at the organization’s Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

    Twinkling lights, holiday cheer return with ERDC Under the Lights

    Employees at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have been hard at work stringing lights and hanging bows for ERDC’s annual holiday lights celebration. The public event is set for Dec. 7-8, from 6-8 p.m., with a separate employee-only night scheduled for Dec. 6. Visitors should enter through Gate 3, just south of the Main Gate at 3909 Halls Ferry Road.
  • Computer scientist Tung “Alex” Ly with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) invented the “Digital Buoy Systems and Method” in his laboratory at ERDC’s Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL), Alexandria, Virginia. He received a patent in May 2022 for his digital system which will help reduce operational costs to the U.S. Government and provide real-time, reliable and enhanced marine navigation safety for U.S. private, public and commercial industries.

    As residents of Louisiana prepare for possible disruptions in their drinking water caused by saltwater intrusion, researchers from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) are assisting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) New Orleans District with assessment and mitigation efforts.

    Sliding on ice at speeds exceeding 90 mph is terrifying for most people, but the USA Luge team is seeking assistance from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) along with academic and industry leaders to go even faster.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District recently hosted personnel from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environmental Laboratory and Information Technology Laboratory to field test two dredging evaluation decision and data documentation tools designed to speed decision making for environmental compliance determinations with state and federal agencies. The work was funded by the Dredging Operations Environmental Research (DOER) Program.     ERDC labs lead modernization of dredging evaluation guidance, tools for environmental compliance decisions

    The project delivery team for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Dredging Operations and Environmental Research, or DOER, Project 19-11 recently published technical guidance and tools for modernizing the conduct of dredging evaluations for open water disposal compliance.
