    Twelve participants from across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were chosen for ERDC University, a six-month detail at the Engineer Research and Development Center. ERDC University orientation was held February 28-March 1 in Vicksburg, Mississippi.     Corps of Engineers District selectees graduate from ERDC University

    Participants from nine U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Districts and the Institute for Water Resources graduated from ERDC University in September, following project presentations to the Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) senior leaders.

    Jose Paredez, a civil engineer with the Los Angeles District, was selected as a participant for the ERDC University Class of 2023. His six-month project with ERDC's Coastal and Hydraulic Laboratory will focus on improving the knowledge base in the field of post-fire hydrology for scientists and researchers.

Jose Paredez, a civil engineer with the Los Angeles District, was chosen to participate in the detail program, now in its eighth year.
  • Canda Lorson, a hydrologist with the New Orleans District, was selected as a participant for the ERDC University Class of 2023. Her six-month project with ERDC's Environmental Laboratory will focus on researching new methods to analyze military contaminates and assist in creating accessible models.

    Ian Markovich, a biologist with the Jacksonville District, has been selected for ERDC University. The goal of his six-month project is to focus on aquatic plant management, particularly Hydrilla management techniques and mechanisms to improve operational treatment efficacy.

  • During his tour of Vicksburg’s campus, Sacramento District’s Joe Hernandez visited the Environmental Laboratory’s Cognitive Ecology Ecohydraulics Research Facility for a briefing on Computational Modeling for Fish Tracking and the Information Technology Laboratory where he will be working on his six-month project for ERDC University.

  • Garrett Hall, senior mechanical engineer for Portland District's Dalles Dam, has been selected for ERDC University. The goal of his six-month project is to gain knowledge from ERDC’s processes and capabilities in the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory for Dalles Dam improvements.

Garrett Hall, senior mechanical engineer with the Portland District’s Dalles Lock and Dam, has been chosen as a participant for this developmental program.
  • Kyle Bayliff, a chemist with the Sacramento District, was selected as a participant for the ERDC University Class of 2023. His six-month project with ERDC's Environmental Laboratory will focus on the interaction of ionic liquids and quantum spin liquids.

  • Michael Deegan Ph.D., social scientist with the USACE Institute for Water Resources in Alexandria, Virginia, was selected as a participant for the ERDC University Class of 2023. His six-month project with ERDC's Environmental Laboratory will focus on researching watershed resilience in low-capacity communities.

    Spencer Harper, a coastal engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) San Francisco District, reached the halfway mark in his research project with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) six-month detail program known as ERDC University, or ERDC-U.

    Dr. Jennifer Miller, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District supervisory environmental engineer, visited a sediment placement site used by the district for placing navigational dredging material for shoreline stabilization and other eco-restoration sites nearby.

    Tours of four world-class laboratories mingled with expert briefings highlighted the orientation session for ERDC University, an outreach program of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). This year, selectees came from five U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) districts, who visited ERDC’s campus in Vicksburg, Mississippi, March 1-2.
