    ERDC announces new partnerships with Vicksburg Catholic School and Porter’s Chapel Academy

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) recently signed an educational partnership agreement with two Vicksburg, Mississippi schools— Vicksburg Catholic School (VCS) and Porter’s Chapel Academy (PCA). These agreements ensure collaboration and the exchange of ideas between ERDC and the schools.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – Abdul Mohamed, a researcher from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), was recently chosen to receive a 2023 Black Engineer of the Year Award (BEYA). The BEYA recognizes African American scientists and engineers around the country who are shaping the future of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as promoting diversity and inclusion in the STEM pipeline.

    Each year, September 15 marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the legacies and cultures of Hispanic American citizens who come from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.     ERDC sets the foundation with STEM summer camps and student tours

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) held a multitude of camps and tours this summer for students through the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP). The program exposes young people to career paths in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and offers many options ranging from middle school to graduate studies.

    In 2016, Warren Kadoya was finishing up his master’s at the University of Arizona in Tucson — looking for a job and aspiring to continue his education by pursing a doctorate in environmental engineering ― when his advisors encouraged him to apply to the Department of Defense’s (DoD) SMART Scholarship program. Kadoya was selected for the program by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, New Hampshire, and the experience enabled him to continue his education while simultaneously working in his field of study.

    ERDC team delivers annual Earth Day message to local students

    On April 20, a group from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Installation Operations Command (IOC) and Environmental Laboratory celebrated Earth Day with fourth grade students from Bowmar Avenue Elementary School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The U.S. Army’s theme for Earth Day this year is “A Partnership for the Planet.”

    Local students participate, tune in for live panel featuring ERDC female leaders

    Students from across the Vicksburg-Warren School District sent in questions and joined the conversation during the most recent segment of ERDC Live, a social media broadcast of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). The theme of the episode, which aired on March 21, was “Women in Innovation: Leading a Better Tomorrow.” Panelists were ERDC Deputy Director Dr. Beth Fleming, ERDC Associate Director Pat Sullivan and ERDC Commander Col. Teresa Schlosser.

    Recently, Alcorn State University (ASU) hosted a team of personnel from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Mississippi, for a career day. The event—known as ERDC Day— was the first of its kind to be held on the ASU campus in Lorman, Mississippi.
