VICKSBURG, Miss. - Team members from the U.S. Army Egnineer Research and Development Center's Environmental Laboratory (EL) and Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) were part of a multi-organizational team recently awarded the 2013 USACE Project Delivery Team (PDT) of the Year for Merit award for “Fort Irwin Water Treatment Plant and Distribution.”
The virtual coast-to-coast PDT delivered one of the Army’s highest priority military construction projects, estimated at $115 million dollars, the success of which was largely attributable to the team's strong communications focus. The team captured lessons learned and strategically prepared for this high investment, applying risk management and delivering a world-class water treatment system. The system achieves a higher recovery rate than any system previously published, producing six million gallons of water per day and ensuring safe and lasting drinking water for Soldiers and their families.
The ERDC team, led by Dr. Victor Medina, EL, includes Scott Waisner, Jose Mattei Sosa, Roy Wade and Jared Johnson, EL, and Janean Shirley, ITL. The group contributed environmental engineering and water treatment expertise for an independent review and value engineering, conducted a risk evaluation on achieving high water recovery and conducted laboratory research on treatment approaches for reject water from an electrodialysis reversal system.
The project manager was Lt. Col. Joe Seybold, Los Angeles District. Other participants include the Sacramento and Mobile Districts, CH2M Hill, GE Power and Water, and the Fort Irwin Department of Public Works.
