JACKSON, Miss.—ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory’s (GSL) Stacy Holton was recently selected by Jackson State University as a member of the 2013-2014 Transportation Research Board (TRB) Minority Student Fellows Program.
Holton will present his thesis research titled, "Bonding of Coated & Un-Coated Steel Fiber Reinforcement in Portland Cement Mortar and Geopolymer-Based Composite Materials." This research focuses on improving the performance of fiber-reinforced geopolymer concrete for use in extreme environments by utilizing a ceramic coating.
The TRB Minority Student Fellows Program provides financial assistance for minority students from historically black colleges and universities and other minority-serving institutions to attend and present a research paper at the TRB Annual Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in January 2014, Washington, D.C.
Eligible institutions select a highly-qualified graduate student or advanced undergraduate in a transportation-related curriculum to participate in the program and will designate a faculty member to oversee the student’s work and accompany the student to the meeting.
The TRB Annual Meeting program covers all transportation modes and features more than 4,000 presentations in about 750 sessions and workshops of interest attracting more than 11,000 policy makers, administrators, practitioners, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions.
