HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss.—An ERDC Environmental Laboratory (EL) researcher Dr. Carl Cerco recently served on an expert review panel at Stennis Space Center as part of the "Forum for Gulf of Mexico Hypoxia Research Coordination and Advancement."
Cerco, along with panel members from government, academia, and the private sector, provided perspectives to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration regarding the next steps in hypoxia modeling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The panel was charged to work with gulf modelers to assess the state of forecast models and to develop recommendations on modeling approaches and to review presentations, participate in question and answer sessions, and met to summarize results.
Next, the panel will produce a white paper with recommendations on how to move the hypoxia modeling process into forecast mode.
