The work entailed geodetic surveying and terrestrial laser scanning of a 1.6-mile trail that generally follows the perimeter of the Soldier Systems Center.  This trail features a variety of surface materials and includes many turns and some very steep slopes.

Later, after the team has collected and processed the data and registered the individual laser scans, the entire trail will be available to USARIEM researchers for 3-D viewing and analysis.

The LASSO team was requested to collect this 3-D terrain data prior to a cycle of human data collection from test subjects.  In these tests, human subjects will perform laps of the trail carrying various loads.  The information collected from these subjects will support USARIEM human research protocols and load carriage model development.

Additionally, the information will support the validation of a mission planning tool by the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center Soldier Integrated Protection Team.
