The Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) has selected Dr. Todd Bridges to receive its Outstanding Practitioner Award for 2012. The award recognizes outstanding contributions made in the field of risk analysis practice within the public or private sector. Bridges is a senior researcher in environmental science in ERDC-EL. Bridges was recognized for his research in risk analysis to support infrastructure development and operations, natural resource management and environmental remediation and restoration. He received the award at the SRA annual meeting in San Francisco, Calif., Dec. 10-12, 2012.

“Over my career, I’ve had the good fortune to work with a lot of very smart and talented people. I took a few minutes the other day to count up the number of different people with whom I have co-authored journal articles, books chapters and such on topics related to risk analysis over the last 20 years, and I counted more than 70,” said Bridges. “These colleagues are from different ERDC laboratories, several different government agencies and universities and the private sector-in the US and other countries. The opportunity to engage and work with others on such a broad and diverse scale is one the great things about working at ERDC. I’m very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to work with so many talented people, and for what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

Bridges serves as the director of the Center for Contaminated Sediments and as the program manager for the Dredging Operations Environmental Research program at ERDC. He is an active member of SRA, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the Ecological Society of America and the International Navigation Association.

Bridges earned a bachelor’s and master’s in biology/zoology from California State University-Fresno in 1985 and 1988, respectively. He followed with a 1992 doctorate in biological oceanography from North Carolina State University. Bridges and his wife Anita live in Clinton, Miss. with their three children.

The SRA has nearly 2,000 members worldwide, covering careers in engineering, environmental sciences, human health and toxicology, communications, social science, economics and others. SRA provides a multidisciplinary, international forum for the exchange of information, ideas and methodologies for risk analysis and risk problem solving.
