Vicksburg, Miss.--ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory’s (GSL) Dr. Paul F. Mlakar was recently selected by the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES) as the 2013 recipient of the Norm Augustine Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Communication. 

The AAES is a multidisciplinary organization of engineering societies dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of engineering representing the mainstream of U.S. engineering in industry, government, and academia. 

The Norm Augustine Award is given to exceptional individuals who can communicate to the public the importance and responsibilities of engineering giving a better understanding and appreciation on how engineers improve our quality of life. 

Mlakar is recognized for his ability to effectively communicate technical issues to the public, fellow engineers and members of Congress.  His demonstrated leadership in forensic civil engineering and his significant contributions to structural assessments following catastrophic events is also being recognized. 

The award will be presented at the National Academy of Engineering Annual Convocation, April 22, Washington, D.C.
