HONOLULU, Hawaii - Technical staff members with ERDC's Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) and also with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Reachback Operations Center (UROC), recently traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii, to provide pre-deployment training to 565th and 62nd FEST-A teams with the USACE Pacific Ocean Division.

Training was conducted on the TeleEngineering Communications Equipment-Deployable (TCE-D) system, which provides the teams with remote telephone, Internet, video teleconferencing, and data transfer capabilities using satellite-based connectivity.

The teams were also trained on the encryption capabilities of the TCE-D system to enable secure communications when needed. In addition to the TCE-D, both teams were fully trained on the Automated Route Reconnaissance Kit (ARRK) capability provided by the UROC. The ARRK provides an efficient and complete system for conducting mounted route reconnaissance, which can be configured for both ground based missions as well as aerial applications for situational awareness.
