VICKSBURG, Miss. - ERDC researchers from the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory's (GSL) Airfields and Pavements Branch (APB) are joining engineers and acquisition specialists from U.S. Army Tank Automotive Command (TACOM) in specifying acquisition systems for the Enhanced Rapid Airfield Construction Capability (ERACC) program.
The ERACC program is the renamed technology transition and acquisition effort that seeks to field systems and capabilities developed under the Joint Rapid Airfield Construction program, which ERDC researchers executed from 2002 to 2007.
The ERACC program will provide Army engineers with new airfield site assessment, design, construction, and quality control systems aimed at allowing contingency airfields to be developed for rapid deployments in austere environments.
GSL engineers are being asked to provide technical support on virtually all ERACC system acquisitions, and to take the lead on specifying the mobile soil testing and survey platform.
