VICKSBURG, Miss. — ERDC Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) researcher Dr. Julie Rosati, a research hydraulic engineer, recently co-authored technical note "Sediment Budget Possibilities and Improbabilities." The article is scheduled to appear inCoastal Engineering, Volume 60, in February.

The technical note, co-authored with Todd Walton, Florida State University, and Robert Dean, University of Florida, presents a simple methodology for assessing a sediment budget for inlets, i.e. what is possible, and what is not possible via a matrix equation system and linear algebra. Some examples are given of both pitfalls and correct approaches to sediment budget development. Equations for a simple sediment budget for a hypothetical tidal inlet were developed.
