VICKSBURG, Miss.  ERDC Information Technology Laboratory's (ITL) Dr. Charles R. "Bob" Welch has been elected to the steering committee of the 10th Annual NanoTechnology for Defense Conference (NT4D) to be held in Summerlin, Nev., Aug. 6–10.

The NT4D focuses on accelerating the rate of transition from discovery to technology, and is committed to providing a fertile and stimulating forum for discussion on recent nanotechnology innovations in order to maximize their impact on defense and dual-use technologies.

The conference brings together technical representatives from industry, academia and government.

The conference, initiated a decade ago by the Air Force and Army Research Laboratories, the Office of Naval Research, the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, remains the premier event addressing emerging and nano technologies for defense.

ERDC's Advanced Materials Initiative, which employs nanotechnology to develop super materials for military engineering and infrastructure, fits well within NT4D's theme and it is anticipated that ERDC staff members will present several papers at this year's conference.
