CHAMPAIGN, Ill.—Alfred Beitelman, Champaign, received two awards from the Steel Structures Painting Council. The Technical Achievement Award recognizes his lifetime contributions to paint and coatings technology as a chemist at the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, where he also directed the Corps of Engineers Paint Technology Center. He won the SSPC Military Coatings Project Award for successfully demonstrating a low-temperature coating system on a Bailey bridge at a military post in Alaska. The awards were presented at the SSPC annual meeting in Tampa, Fla. Beitelman retired from CERL and continues to serve as a consultant.
