VICKSBURG, Miss. — The ERDC Environmental Laboratory (EL) recently hosted an interagency workshop on contaminated sediments that brought together more than 30 scientists and engineers from the Navy, Environmental Protection Agency, and ERDC's EL and Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL).
The workshop was held to share information on research under way within each organization, identify research needs and gaps, and define opportunities for future collaboration and leveraging across the organizations.
Presentations summarized ongoing research collaborations and agency-specific science and engineering priorities regarding the assessment and management of contaminated sediments. Break-out sessions identified science and technology gaps in four major topic areas: Enhanced Monitored Natural Recovery and the Use of in Situ Treatment, Confined Aquatic Disposal and Capping, Measuring Remedy Effectiveness, and System-Scale Modeling.
The workshop results will be used to foster future collaborative exchange and leveraging.
