Dr. Jeffery P. Holland, director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), has appointed Ernest W. Lutz, Jr. as chief of the ERDC Internal Review Office in Vicksburg, Miss.
Lutz joins ERDC from Headquarters, Department of the Army, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/5/7 at the Pentagon, where he served as director of Internal Review.
The Internal Review Office applies professional accounting and auditing knowledge, standards, and principles to a variety of duties. This includes advising on, supervising or performing examination and appraisal of financial records, financial and management reports, management controls, policies and practices affecting or reflecting the financial condition and operating results of an activity; analyzing work related to the developing and executing audit policies and programs; conducting performance audits or conducting activities related to the detection of fraud, waste, and abuse.
“I’m delighted to be joining ERDC after many years serving in the capital area. Having worked cooperatively with many ERDC colleagues previously, I’m quite looking forward to this opportunity to join the ERDC team,” said Lutz.
Lutz holds bachelor’s degrees from Louisiana State University and Pennsylvania State University. His past assignments include the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Germantown, Md., along with a variety of civilian and military duty positions in the Pentagon.
A U.S. Army veteran, Lutz is the recipient of many decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Joint Services Achievement Medal. He also earned both the Joint Staff Identification Badge and the Army Staff Badge.
The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for USACE, with more than 2,500 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities and an annual research program exceeding $1.5 billion. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation.
