Fontanella Appointed to Senior Executive Service

Alexandria, Va. — ERDC Topographic Engineering Center's Director Dr. Joseph F. Fontanella was recently appointed to the Senior Executive Service.

Fontanella began his federal career as the assistant director for Plans and Program Management with ERDC in Alexandria upon retiring from the Army at the rank of colonel after 26 years of service.

He earned a doctorate in educational leadership, a master's in both national resource strategy and geography, and a bachelor's in environmental science and landscape architecture. His military education includes attendance at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, as well as the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He is a Level III certified acquisition professional, as well as a licensed landscape architect in the states of Maryland and Texas, and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Fontanella is also the director of the Army Geospatial Center (AGC). He served as deputy director of AGC from 2006–2010.
