Vicksburg, Miss. — Alice Duke has been named associate director of ERDC. In this position she will, among other things, be the Laboratory Demonstration Project program manager, provide oversight to the Graduate Institute and ERDC Awards Program, and serve as a resource to senior executive management on authorities, policies, regulations, processes and practices.

"I'm very excited about the opportunities and challenges presented in this position," said Duke.

Duke began her ERDC career in 1982 as a mathematician in the Environmental Laboratory. In 1986, she joined the Information Technology Laboratory, where she remained until 2007, with the exception of a three-year stint as a civilian computer scientist and program manager for the Air Force.

In 2007, Duke joined the ERDC Executive Office as deputy to the commander, the position she held prior to being named associate director. As deputy to the commander, she provided management, policy direction and strategic oversight to the Command Staff Division and represented the commander on all civilian matters in the commander's absence.

"ERDC is a wonderful place to work," said Duke. "In this role I have the opportunity to understand even more about the many initiatives we are engaged in."

Duke earned a bachelor's in psychology from Wake Forest University and a master's in computer science and mathematics from Mississippi College. She has completed post-graduate work in computer science at Mississippi State University.
