Champaign, Ill. — Steve Luzzi, a project manager with ERDC’s Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL), was recently named a recipient of the 2010 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator’s Award for Outstanding Performance Management. He was one of only two individuals recognized outside the EPA with the award, which honors the achievements of an employee or team who demonstrate exceptional leadership, skill and commitment in advancing the implementation of performance management within the EPA.

The award, presented in an EPA ceremony conducted Nov. 30 in Washington, D.C., specifically recognizes Luzzi for his work with the Federal Facilities Environmental Stewardship and Compliance Assistance Center (FedCenter), where he is currently the manager. FedCenter has been managed by CERL for six years, a duty given to the lab because of its experienced staff and subject area experts. The center strives to help federal agencies meet their environmental regulatory obligations and reduce their environmental footprint.

Luzzi's recent contributions include the development of a comprehensive online data repository and reporting tool, the Federal Environmental Data Reporting & Tracking System. The system is designed to help federal agencies quickly respond to environmental data calls and Congressional reporting requirements. The tool has been successfully adopted and used by more than 16 federal agencies to help satisfy various data calls.

He has been developing, managing, and operating environmental information management systems for the federal community for the past 21 years.
