Vicksburg, Miss. — Physical Scientist Jill Jackson with ERDC's U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Reachback Operations Center (UROC) was named the recipient of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) 2010 Tudor Medal. The award is given annually to the SAME Young Member who has made outstanding contributions to engineering, design, construction or planning for the previous three years.

"It was very humbling to receive this award knowing that I work with some of the most talented and passionate personnel within ERDC," said Jackson. "They constantly strive to provide the best technologies and solutions to the Warfighter."

According to her nomination packet, Jackson was eligible for the award due to "outstanding contributions in planning, executing and providing the best possible reachback and communication capability to deployed forces in support of military operations, natural disasters and other contingences." She is the principal investigator in developing and integrating new technologies and recommends and verifies hardware and software changes for the Automated Route Reconnaissance Kit—Ground and Air Platforms, a means of communication for deployed troops. She also serves as the one of the UROC Code 4 supervisors and as training team lead.

"The best thing about working in the UROC is getting the opportunity to interact with so many individuals across the entire USACE, who are supporting the Warfighter in their daily lives," Jackson said.
