Vicksburg, Miss. - Army financial careerists across the globe faced fierce competition this fiscal year from ERDC Management Analyst Amy Rainer, according to Business Resource Division Director Roland Clavien.
Clavien congratulated Rainer in March, upon learning that she had earned the Outstanding Achievement in Resource Management below Major Command level, only the third national award to date this fiscal year honoring ERDC personnel.
Rainer will receive recognition from the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller) in a June 1 ceremony highlighting the American Society of Military Comptrollers meeting to be conducted in Minneapolis, Minn.
Clavien noted that "as a result of her efforts, ERDC will now be able to save approximately $2.5 million annually in maintenance and utility bills."
Rainer's primary responsibility centers on the operation of ERDC's data warehouse initiative, one of the Army's most advanced financial reporting systems. Implemented in 2002, this initiative provides a centralized means of accessing pertinent financial information. "Additionally, she was instrumental in developing a report which detailed for senior leadership the precise distribution of income generating customers within the ERDC," Clavien said.
"It's humbling to receive this award, knowing how vast the resource management community is," Rainer said. "It's been a very rewarding experience just getting to work with the passionate and knowledgeable individuals on ERDC's data warehouse team. They constantly strive to provide ERDC with the best information possible, so that ERDC can better meet its customer's needs."
Clavien explained that Rainer "developed a report which detailed all the ERDC customers whose funds were burdened with our overhead rates. She then provided detailed analysis and historic trend evaluation to pinpoint those customers, providing the ripest opportunity for repeat business. Her evaluations made it possible for senior leadership to effectively target their marketing campaigns and garner more than $300 million in new fund commitments in the program years."
Rainer began her ERDC career in 2000 as part of the Student Temporary Employment Program. She joined the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory's staff in 2005 as a contractor, moving to administrative assistant in the Resource Management Directorate in 2008.
Promoted to her current position as a management analyst in 2009, she also earned her bachelor's in 2006 and master's from Mississippi College in 2008 during those work years.
"Ms. Rainer's beyond-the-call-of-duty dedication and superior skill has been crucial to ERDC's operational efficiency, and has enabled ERDC to optimize its resources and focus dollars on mission enhancement," Clavien said.
