CERL Researcher and Visiting Scholar Awarded U.S. Patent

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — ERDC Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) researcher Dr. Veera Boddu and ORISE Program visiting scholar Dr. Krishnaiah Abburi were recently awarded U.S. Patent No. 8,002,917 B2, "Adjusting Yield of a Manufacturing Process for Energetic Compounds through Solubility Modification."

This patent uses relatively environmentally benign recyclable solvents at ambient temperature and pressure, reducing both environmental impact and energy costs. The patent eliminates the need for major process and infrastructure changes at U.S. Army ammunitions plants.
