NEW ORLEANS — Dr. Larry N. Lynch, ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory, was recently named the 2011 Lt. Gen. John W. Morris Civilian of the Year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

According to Acting Chief of Engineers Maj. Gen. Merdith "Bo" Temple, Lynch was "recommended to receive this award by a committee appointed to assist me in determining who, among the outstanding nominees, maintained the highest standards of excellence and displayed the most significant and noteworthy contributions to the mission, prestige, and reputation of the Corps of Engineers. After reviewing the nominees and considering the recommendations of the committee, it was clear that you possess many of the qualities and attributes that are synonymous with the 44th chief of engineers for whom this award is named."

"I was extremely honored to receive the USACE Civilian of the Year Award," Lynch said. "USACE has more than 38,000 employees. I was proud to have been nominated, but actually being awarded the Civilian of the Year Award is a great honor. I have been blessed beyond belief."

Lynch joined the ERDC career in December 1984 and currently oversees the research, development, test, evaluation, and special technical support mission of GSL's Engineering Systems and Materials Division (ESMD).
