FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- ERDC Construction Engineering Research Laboratory’s  (CERL) Dr. Mark Ginsberg and U.S. Army Public Health Command’s Dr. Steven Richards, at CERL to provide technical support, recently received certificates of appreciation for their participation and support during Fort Bragg’s full-scale water security exercise, Orbit Comet.

Orbit Comet is an annual exercise designed to test Fort Bragg’s chain of command and first responders to a variety of terrorism and force protection threats.

Fort Bragg’s Director of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Mike Lynch presented both Ginsberg and Richards their certificates with the following citation, “Their leadership as subject matter experts and senior advisers while assisting Fort Bragg’s protection professionals in water security awareness, preparedness, response, and recovery protocols … greatly enhanced the overall success of the exercise and reflects great credit upon CERL, Fort Bragg, and the U.S. Army.”

The purpose of the full-scale water security exercise was to facilitate the mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery from a significant water contamination incident on Fort Bragg. The exercise involved Fort Bragg's garrison command and first responders, including fire, medical, military police and hazardous material teams, as well as local emergency management teams from the counties surrounding the installation.
