VICKSBURG, Miss.--With their award-winning website main page displayed in the background, the Flood Stoppers eCYBERMISSION Team met with ERDC Commander Col. Kevin Wilson, far right, to share their accomplishments in this year’s competitions and receive his congratulations.

State championship winning team members are, from left, Emily Tingle, Max Wamsley, Elizabeth Ann Boyd and Nick Wright, all of Vicksburg.

The Flood Stoppers advanced to the southeastern regional contest where they beat out more than 1,000 students to claim second place with their project seeking flood control measures for low income housing.

A component of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs, these Army-sponsored eCYBERMISSION competitions are free for students in grades six through nine.  Through web-based contests, teams vie for state, regional and national awards while working to solve problems in their community.

ERDC Geotechnical and Structure Laboratory’s Shelley Tingle served as adviser to the then 8th graders’ Vicksburg team.
