VICKSBURG, Miss.--ERDC Environmental Laboratory (EL) Research Civil Engineer Dr. Billy E. Johnson, recently received the Mississippi Section American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2012 Engineer of the Year award.
Johnson was recognized by the Mississippi Section of ASCE for his outstanding achievement in the advancement of the civil engineering profession and in contributions to public service.
His research includes directing senior-level research teams on complex research projects involving watershed water quality, contaminants, and human and environmental health risk assessment model development and application. He is responsible for planning and executing multi-disciplinary environmental research programs to solve problems in his areas of expertise and assembles unique research teams from multiple branches, divisions, laboratories, and outside personnel, to address problems of the highest order of difficulty and complexity.
He is well-published, having written numerous technical reports, journal articles, a book chapter, and national and international conference papers.
His awards include the ERDC Herbert D. Vogel Engineer Award, Armed Forces Civilian Service Medal (Hurricane Katrina Support), Diplomat, Water Resources Engineer, ERDC Research and Development Achievement Award, and ERDC Commander’s Award for Civilian Service. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor at Mississippi State University, both teaching and participating on master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation committees.
