Autonomous barge kits improve logistical capabilities for joint forces
Operational controls, including both manual and remote systems, for the Scalable Autonomous Modular Propulsion kits for coastal and riverine Operational Logistics, or SAMPOL. The remote control allows the operator to stand on the deck or shore and assume control of the vessel to affect a landing or docking of the vessel. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center partnered with the U.S. Transportation Command to develop the kits to assist with military logistics and wet gap crossings. The system was designed to be mounted on a barge to allow the vessel to operate virtually unaided using the included remote systems. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers photo by Jared Eastman)
