Nearly 40 Girl Scouts, ranging from 5 to 17 years old, came to ERDC last weekend for an annual Engineering Workshop hosted by the Mississippi River Section of the National Society of Women Engineers. The girls got a chance to check out a mini flume showing wave characteristics, a shaker table simulating earthquakes and sand boxes to demonstrate strengthening foundations. The workshop, which is designed by women in engineering, is a hands-on way to let girls explore careers in STEM.
