The Engineers at Vicksburg Part 15: The Forts of Grand Gulf
One of the Union ironclads to engage at Grand Gulf, the U.S.S. Lafayette was a converted side wheel steamer upgraded to an ironclad ram in St. Louis in 1862. After supporting the Vicksburg campaign, the Lafayette served on the Red River campaign in 1864.
