Mr. Patrick M. Kieffer began a temporary assignment as the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center Deputy Director in March 2026. As the Acting Deputy Director, he serves as the Chief Operating Officer for one of the most diverse research organizations in the world, with seven laboratories located in four states and more than 2,400 employees, $2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program exceeding $1.6 billion. ERDC’s research and development supports the Department of War and other agencies in military and civilian projects. Principal research mission areas include Military Engineering, Civil Works, Installations and Operational Environments, Geospatial Research and Engineering, Engineered Resilient Systems, and Integrated Cold Science and Engineering.
