Lieutenant Colonel Crystal Batey is the deputy commander of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).
Batey was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 2003. She is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captain’s Career Course, CGSC (ILE), Royal School of Military Survey, Joint Engineer Operations Course, Airborne, and Sapper Leader Course.
Her assignments have included:
- Platoon leader, 502nd Engineer Multi-Role Bridge Company, Hanau, Germany, 2004-2005
- Executive Officer HHD and plans officer, Engineer Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Giessen, Germany, 2005-2007
- Aide-de-camp to the deputy, Combined Joint 9, Multi-National Force Iraq (MNF-I), 2008.
- Plans officer, 20th Engineer Brigade (C) (A), 2009.
- Company Commander of the 100th Engineer Company (Geospatial), 2010-2011
- S3, 30th Engineer Battalion (Prov) 2012, Fort Bragg, North Carolina
- Operations Officer, TRADOC Capability Manager (TCM) Geospatial, 2013-2015.
- Executive Officer, 35th Engineer Battalion (OSUT), 2015-2016
- S3, 1st Engineer Brigade, 2016-2017.
- Operations officer, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, Kuwait, 2017.
- Chief of Current Operations, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, 2017-2018.
- The G3, Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Vicksburg, MS 2018-2021.
Batey holds a master’s degree in public safety, a post graduate diploma in geographic information systems, and a bachelor’s degree in sociology, and certifications in Geospatial Proficiency – Foundations and Geospatial Proficiency – Geospatial Analysis. Her awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Sapper Tab.
She is a native of Barnesville, Minnesota. She and her husband Brian have a son, (Logan) and two daughters (Tegan and Regan).
