Program Structure/Requirements:
ECHO Fellows will work directly with their Research Advisor to develop and execute their proposed projects, and therefore, ECHO Fellows are required to sit at the location of their research advisor, at either CHL’s Main Campus in Vicksburg, MS, CHL’s Field Research Facility in Duck, NC, or at JALBTCX in Kiln, MS, as specified in the research opportunity solicitation. Remote positions will not be considered for ECHO Fellows at this time. ECHO Fellows will be required to publish at least 1 journal article during their fellowship, and present their work annually at a scientific conference. ECHO Fellows will also be required to present their research annually at ERDC’s ECHO Program symposium. Within reason, ECHO Fellows will be provided time to finish the publication of their Ph.D. research and to interview/seek out follow-on jobs (internally or externally to ERDC) during their appointment.
Position/Salary Information:
ECHO Fellows will be hired as termed, full government employees using ERDC’s Direct Hire Authority. Positions will start anytime between March 1 and October 1 each year. ECHO Fellows will report to their research advisor and their research advisor’s supervisor (Branch Chief, Division Chief, or Technical Director). ECHO Fellows will be hired as DB-02 (GS-5/11) researchers with salaries ranging from $65K - $80K depending on experience/degree. Appointment length will be specified in the research opportunity solicitation, generally ranging from 1 to 3 years, with opportunities to extend up to 6 years.
Qualifications:
Applicants must: (1) Have completed a Ph.D. no earlier than 5 years before the application opening date, and no-later than the Echo Fellowship start date; (2) Meet the technical requirements described in the research opportunity solicitation; and (3) Be a U.S. Citizen.
4. Conditions of Employment:
Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
This position may have a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement.
This is a Modified Term position scheduled to last the length indicated on the research opportunity solicitation (project specific). A modified term position may be extended to a maximum of six years.
Appointment to this position may lead to a subsequent non-competitive conversion to a permanent appointment.
Term employment is subject to a one year trial period.
Pursuant to EO 14043, all Federal employees, regardless of duty location or work arrangement, must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by November 22, 2021, or before entrance on duty if after November 22, subject to exceptions as required by law.
