USACE R&D Strategy

About the USACE Research and Development Strategy

At the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), our vision is to provide engineering solutions to our Nation’s toughest challenges. For 245 years, we’ve continuously risen to meet the challenges of the day, and today is no exception.

But the challenges of today and tomorrow are not like yesterday’s. From droughts and wildfires across the western states, to harmful algal blooms in Florida and the Great Lakes, to increasingly frequent disasters faced by communities across the country, to the evolving nature of international warfare, 21st century challenges are increasingly complex and interconnected.

That’s why we’re entering a bold, new era for research and development within USACE.

In January 2021, Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, the 55th Chief of Engineers and USACE Commanding General, challenged us to reimagine our approach to research and development. USACE and U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development (ERDC) officials worked together to create the USACE Research and Development Strategy, which centers on 10 priorities to help guide our world-class R&D capabilities.

The great challenges of today and tomorrow require integrated engineering solutions. With our world-class facilities, the top-notch expertise of our people, and our strong partnerships with government and academia, we are positioned to deliver our mission more efficiently and effectively than ever.
