WEBVTT 00:13.870 --> 00:15.960 Hi , I'm Shelly Tingle with the U S 00:15.960 --> 00:18.127 Army Engineer Research and Development 00:18.127 --> 00:19.960 Center . Today I have with me Mr 00:19.960 --> 00:21.960 William Butler with the coastal and 00:21.960 --> 00:24.320 hydraulics laboratory . He is also 00:24.320 --> 00:26.230 branch chief of the field data 00:26.230 --> 00:28.230 collection and analysis branch . 00:28.240 --> 00:30.330 Welcome , Mr Butler . Thank you , 00:30.330 --> 00:32.441 Shelly . Can you tell us a little bit 00:32.441 --> 00:36.240 about Marv ? To ? Yes , Marv two was 00:36.240 --> 00:40.240 developed from a the pier J C T D 00:40.250 --> 00:43.700 military program um for 00:43.710 --> 00:47.130 reconnaissance pier import structures . 00:47.140 --> 00:50.960 Um Since then , there have been the 00:50.960 --> 00:53.182 one that we have here behind us now and 00:53.182 --> 00:55.410 four others manufacturers and those 00:55.410 --> 00:58.400 have been uh transitioned into the army 00:58.400 --> 01:00.567 dive detachments and for the army dive 01:00.567 --> 01:03.510 dive detachments . Um Furthermore , 01:03.520 --> 01:06.410 since that period , we have utilized 01:06.410 --> 01:08.632 this on several other military projects 01:08.640 --> 01:11.640 other than the dive operations uh as 01:11.650 --> 01:14.050 and we've been using it on several 01:14.060 --> 01:16.720 civil works applications as well . So 01:16.720 --> 01:18.387 you talked about how this was 01:18.387 --> 01:20.220 originally designed for military 01:20.220 --> 01:22.164 applications . Can you give us one 01:22.164 --> 01:25.240 example of that ? Yes . So when just 01:25.240 --> 01:28.220 for instance , if a airport is damaged 01:28.230 --> 01:30.119 somehow or another , whether it's 01:30.119 --> 01:32.840 natural disaster or uh an explosion or 01:32.840 --> 01:35.850 some , some sort , this vessel would be 01:35.850 --> 01:38.017 put into the water . It would actually 01:38.017 --> 01:40.330 collect the necessary data to , to give 01:40.330 --> 01:42.720 to a subject matter expert to give 01:42.720 --> 01:45.280 repairs for that , for that uh 01:45.290 --> 01:47.470 structure , for that structure . And 01:47.470 --> 01:49.637 along those lines , you also said that 01:49.637 --> 01:51.526 is now being used for civil works 01:51.526 --> 01:53.414 applications . Can you tell us an 01:53.414 --> 01:55.414 example of one of those civil works 01:55.414 --> 01:57.359 applications that the March two is 01:57.359 --> 01:59.581 being used for ? Absolutely , I can't , 01:59.581 --> 02:01.637 it's been on several actually um for 02:01.637 --> 02:03.414 post hurricane specifically for 02:03.414 --> 02:05.359 hurricane Michael that hit down in 02:05.359 --> 02:07.596 Panama City area , we were using it for 02:07.596 --> 02:09.652 to look at channel clearing of small 02:09.652 --> 02:11.707 channels and boat harbors down there 02:11.707 --> 02:13.929 for the mobile district . We've used it 02:13.929 --> 02:15.818 numerous occasions for looking at 02:15.818 --> 02:18.672 stealing basins behind locks and around 02:18.672 --> 02:20.339 locks and dams for looking at 02:20.339 --> 02:22.228 structural integrity , structural 02:22.228 --> 02:24.422 inspections for Spalding and things 02:24.422 --> 02:26.512 like that . Mark two is a very 02:26.512 --> 02:28.734 innovative technology . Can you tell us 02:28.734 --> 02:30.845 a little bit about some of its unique 02:30.845 --> 02:33.292 capabilities I can . Yes . So number 02:33.292 --> 02:35.912 one um mark to of course , there was a 02:35.912 --> 02:37.880 mark one . Uh So more of two 02:37.880 --> 02:39.936 capabilities , there's one aspect of 02:39.936 --> 02:42.460 this is the vote as you see here is 02:42.460 --> 02:44.516 that it has the ability to go over a 02:44.516 --> 02:46.900 wave , that's the number one and not 02:46.910 --> 02:50.010 and be stable . So the platform can do 02:50.010 --> 02:52.066 this independently other than a boat 02:52.066 --> 02:54.980 that just goes into a way which the 02:54.980 --> 02:57.091 sensors that are on there . The light 02:57.091 --> 02:59.313 are the multi being the the other types 02:59.313 --> 03:01.647 of sensors that go on this boat as well . 03:01.647 --> 03:04.860 Uh That helps in all of the aspects of 03:04.860 --> 03:06.916 the data collection to give the most 03:06.916 --> 03:08.971 accurate data you possibly can get . 03:08.971 --> 03:11.150 Now it is uh it is fully autonomous . 03:11.160 --> 03:13.850 Uh It is driven basically with an Xbox 03:13.860 --> 03:17.350 type controller which is really cool or 03:17.360 --> 03:19.360 and it can be handed off to another 03:19.360 --> 03:21.416 person sitting somewhere else and it 03:21.416 --> 03:23.527 can be driven that way you can put it 03:23.527 --> 03:25.582 in fully autonomous mode , give it a 03:25.582 --> 03:27.471 mission plan and it can go on and 03:27.471 --> 03:27.200 collect the data and bring it back to 03:27.200 --> 03:27.470 you .
