Cynthia Batchelor photo22 Dec 04--Vicksburg, MS--Cynthia Batchelor, a research biologist in the Environmental Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Miss., recently earned the distinction of Modern-day Technology Leader by the Council of Engineering Deans of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Lockheed Martin Corporation, DaimlerChrysler Corporation, and US Black Engineer and Information Technology magazine.

Batchelor received a letter in November stating that she would be recognized during the 19th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference. She will receive a certificate of recognition during the Modern-day Technology Leadership luncheon on Feb. 18, at the Baltimore Convention Center. She was nominated for the award by ERDC Director Dr. James Houston.

According to Batchelor's award letter, "Modern-day Technology Leaders are men and women of color who are demonstrating outstanding performance and will shape the course of engineering, science, and technology in the future. She and other technology leaders are individuals whose stories of phenomenal success merit national recognition."

The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with more than 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program exceeding $700 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation.
