(April 15, 2019) – When David Richards was a recent college graduate working his first job as a hydrologist in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland, he knew that he wanted to do research and make a significant impact in that world.     VICKSBURG, Miss. -- More than luck was on the mind of the participants at this year’s “Shamrock Science at the Museum” event held March 23 at the Mississippi Children’s Museum in Jackson, Mississippi. The event was hosted by The Mississippi Professional Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and engaged children in areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This is the fourth year SHPE-MS has conducted this type of event in order to promote STEM programs to minorities.

(April 5, 2018) -- The old world charm and culture of the Italian city of Padua was just one of the many high points Mathew Farthing experienced while in Italy on sabbatical from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center. Farthing, a research hydraulic engineer in ERDC’s Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, spent the last year teaching a graduate level mathematical engineering course at the University of Padua, the second-oldest university in Italy and the world’s fifth-oldest surviving university.

  • Using unmanned aircraft systems to map installation assets maximizes efficiency

    VICKSBURG, Miss. (Feb. 26, 2018)--Jenny Laird, Thommy Berry, Kenneth Matheson, Elizabeth Lord and Robby Boyd, all of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory, utilized unmanned aircraft systems to conduct an infrastructure inventory and assessment of the ERDC-Vicksburg installation, part of a collaborative effort with ERDC’s Directorate of Public Works and the Installation Support Division.
