VICKSBURG, Miss. — ERDC Security Specialist Teresa Johnson, has completed the requirements for Security Fundamentals Professional Certification from the Defense Security Service.

Johnson, who works primarily with foreign disclosure and industrial security issues in the ERDC Security Office in Vicksburg, was recognized for this significant milestone by ERDC Commander Col. Kevin Wilson.

"It's an honor to have Col. Wilson make the presentation," said Johnson. "I am also pleased that I could make my supervisors proud and am thankful for their initiation of having the award presented publicly at staff call."

Johnson attended a two-week course at the Corps' Vicksburg District to prepare for the certification exam, preceded by many years of resident and online training courses covering security topics. The Security Fundamentals Professional Certification is awarded for successfully completing a comprehensive exam covering a variety of security-related topics. Proctors collect finished exams and forward them to the Department of the Army for evaluation. Successful candidates are notified by mail of the results. The exam has been available for about a year. According to Johnson, while the certification is currently voluntary, it may eventually become a mandatory requirement.
