Vicksburg, Miss. —ERDC's Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) recently dedicated its library in honor of Dr. Nicholas "Nick" Kraus.

Prior to his death on Feb. 3, Kraus made many outstanding contributions to the library, coastal science and engineering, the Coastal Inlets Research Program, and the Corps of Engineers.

His achievements and research in the coastal engineering field were widely recognized by numerous awards, professional appointments and positions. He published more than 400 papers and reports with 170 different co-authors and was a tireless advocate of the need to archive previous studies and investigations.

"Dr Kraus was instrumental in getting the CHL Library set-up and organized," said CHL Director Dr. Bill Martin. "It houses many historical and current reports, engineering reference books, the Dr. Keulegan Collection and an eclectic selection of non-technical reading material the staff may use on a 'get one-put one basis' for reading on TDY [temporary duty] trips, vacations or for recreation. With Nick's love of books and his dedication to publishing, it seemed only fitting that the library be dedicated to his memory."
