ERDC Deputy Commander celebrates Army career

Mr. David Finnegan is the Director of the USACE Remote Sensing/GIS Center of Expertise (RS/GIS CX), ERDC/CRREL. Mr. Finnegan, a research physical scientist, leads a joint team with the National Geospatial - Intelligence Agency (NGA) and ERDC on the development and sustainment of the Geospatial Repository and Data Management System (aka "GRiD"). He continues to serve as the center's chief of the LiDAR and Wetlands Group. Mr. Finnegan's education includes a B.S. in Environmental Physical Sciences from Black Hills State University and an M.S. in Geology from Indiana State University.

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center Director Dr. David Pittman visited the Geospatial Research Laboratory May 16 for a Meet the ERDC Director session where he discussed the ERDC Vision, his philosophy and his life so far.  Following the meeting, Pittman met with Emerging Leaders Group members (from left to right) Shardey Mitchell and Katlyn Castillo.  Mitchell recently earned a Master of Business Administration and an Advanced Management Certificate from Champlain College, Burlington, Vermont.  Castillo was recently named chief of GRL’s Information Generation and Management Branch.

Dr. Jeffrey P. Holland served as the second Director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center from 2010-2017. Dr. Holland served for three years as deputy director of ERDC, and as the director of ERDC’s Information Technology Laboratory. Dr. Holland's numerous awards and honors include: the Federal Laboratory Consortium Director of the Year Award (2014); election to the Mississippi Research Consortium Advisory Board (2013); the Alcorn State University Presidential Citation for Excellence (2012); the U.S. Army R&D Laboratory Management Award (2011); the US Army Engineer Research and Development Laboratory of the Year Award (2009, 2008, 2007); the Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award (2007); and the Bronze and Silver Order of de Fleury Awards (2006, 2012). He has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications, is a member of several technical societies, and is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi.

Dr. James R. Houston served as the first Director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center from 2000-2009. Dr. Houston published over 130 technical reports and papers and received several honors and awards including three Presidential Rank Awards; the National Beach Advocacy Award; and the Morrough P. O’Brien Award of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association.
