ERDC participates in US-Sweden Army Senior Cooperation Forum

ERDC’s Dr. Andy Nelson (International Research Office) and Dr. Anna Wagner (CRREL) recently participated with the US-Sweden Army Senior Cooperation Forum at the Air Defence Regiment in Halmstad, Sweden. They provided updates to U.S. and Swedish Army Senior Leaders on cooperative efforts in cold regions science and engineering and infrastructure protection and sustainability. The meeting also included discussion of potential new areas of cooperative research. Partnerships with our allies helps to strengthen the Power of ERDC and accelerate the pace of research and development.

An ERDC delegation including Dr. Pittman and representatives from IRO, ORTT, GSL, and CERL recently attended the Combat Engineer Conference in Krakow, Poland. Dr. Pittman delivered the final day keynote, “ERDC Support to the Multi Domain Operations Concept”. CERL and GSL presented ERDC research supporting robotics for engineer operations and military bridging. The team met with representatives from other militaries and global industry representatives at the conference attended by over 20 nations. This is just one of many ways that ERDC acts as a worldwide leader in R&D to support the Engineers.

Mission & Core Competencies

The mission of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center-International Research Office (ERDC-IRO) is to promote science and technology interaction, exchange, and cooperation between ERDC and the international research community as a means to advance science and engineering knowledge and technical capabilities in areas relevant to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mission and primary support to Army S&T:

  1. Blast and Weapons Effects on Structures and Geo-Materials.
  2. Civil and Military Engineering.
  3. Battlespace Terrain Mapping and Characterization.
  4. Cold Regions Science and Engineering.
  5. Military Installations and Infrastructure.
  6. Computational Prototyping of Military Platforms.
  7. Coastal, River and Environmental Engineering.

ERDC’s ability to understand, predict, and shape the operational environment drives our S&T strategy and underpins our core competency areas. Our four core competency areas best positioned to currently support the Army’s Modernization are: (a) Blast and Weapons Effects on Structures and Geo-Materials, (b) 3D Mapping and Characterization, (c) Civil and Military Engineering, and (d) Cold Regions Science and Engineering. These core competencies are key to enabling the ability of our current and future military forces to gain and maintain overmatch.

Our capabilities and facilities are available to assist you in addressing and solving a variety of research and engineering challenges. The IRO promotes R&D opportunities through:

  • support for travel by experts
  • support for focused technical workshops
  • support for international conferences; and
  • research contracting
